Gene by Agent Provocateur - The Epitome of Luxury Lingerie

No one else does lingerie quite like Agent Provocateur. Every season they bring out a host of stunning new designs that are super luxurious, sexy and above all classy, but every now and then Agent Provocateur will out-do even themselves, coming up with a piece that leaves everything else looking, well, quite boring really. I couldn't wait to see their new Soirée collection that launched today - the teaser image on their homepage was a gorgeous red leopard print set and pretty as it is, it pales in comparison to the Gene range from the same collection.

Gene is, quite simply, stunning. It is made from a very expensive-looking thick guipure embroidery lace (definitely not the kind of lace your high-street bras and knickers are made from!) in navy blue, set against a lighter blue French silk satin background.

The highlight of the range is the corset - priced at a massive £950 but well worth it if you have that kind of money lying around - which is a traditional boned style with underwired, padded cups for a gorgeous silhouette. If that's a bit (or a lot) out of your budget the bra set would still make an eye-catching addition to any lingerie drawer. The supportive, plunge-style bra is available with either a wide-lace trimmed brief (my favourite!) or a sexy low-rise thong.

"Gene strikes the balance perfectly between couture lingerie and form fitting shape wear" (Agent Provocateur website)

La Senza Voucher Code - Free postage this weekend!

La Senza recently ran their Pets on Pyjamas competition to find the nation's cutest pets - I'm happy to say that my adorable little tortoise Toby was a runner up! The prize was a £50 gift voucher and it just so happens that half an hour before I got the email I was in La Senza browsing their latest ranges and planning what I would be buying when I had the money...

For those of you who were less lucky, you can still get FREE SHIPPING for the pre-Halloween weekend, from now until midnight on Sunday 30th October. Simple enter the voucher code Halloween1 at checkout.

Here's my run-down of the prettiest new pieces in store...

 Bra £26, Short £14
Even more beautiful in real life, this luxurious and wonderfully unique set is made from a glamorous dark rose satin with unusual lace detail on the matching shorts, all adorned with pretty ribbon bows. There's also a thong available (and a babydoll), but I'd definitely recommend the shorts on this one - you won't find anything else like them!

Bra £26, Thong £12, Suspender £14
I blogged about this set before when it originally came out in cream - the newly launched red version is even better with the same feminine style but now made much sexier in this gorgeous colour! Plus, there's now a suspender belt available of the chiffon variety that's totally unique, or loose shorts for total comfort.

Lace Ventura
Babydoll & Thong set £28

The cutely named Lace Ventura set is a simple but
pretty mix of sheer black chiffon and ivory lace overlay, all topped off with ribbon bows. The matching thong is made in the same ivory lace over a black lining. Very elegant and sexy!

Luxury latex lingerie

I've never been a massive fan of latex but after Atsuko Kudo recently hit the limelight, winning (among many other awards) Most Innovative Brand of the Year at the UK Lingerie Awards 2011, I decided to do a bit of research and see if there was anyone else offering up latex lingerie that was more luxe in finish than fetish. It appears there are actually quite a few brands worth taking a look at...

By far the leaders in luxury latex lingerie - Atsuko Kudo

Beautiful, pin-up, vintage style lingerie... in latex

It doesn't get much more luxurious than delicate filigree appliqué!

(I think this brand deserves a blog all of its own... coming soon!)
How adorable is this set? Hard to believe it's made from latex!

I can't forget Vengeance Designs - available at Esty Lingerie!

What's your verdict - is latex a do or a don't for when you want something extra special and luxurious?

How it all began...

I've moved house recently and still have things lying around unpacked, so last night when my boyfriend tipped a glass of water over it inevitably went all over a folder of my paperwork! Luckily I managed to save everything and as I was peeling the sheets apart and laying them out to dry, I came across these two tiny little sketches - one of a satin and lace babydoll set and the other of a pair of anchor-motif pyjamas. Believe it or not, it was these two quick drawings that began Esty Lingerie.

I'd been living in Paris for a few months with plenty of time on my hands as well as chic lingerie boutiques everywhere I went and then one morning I just woke up and thought 'I'm going to open a lingerie store today'. I've always been pretty obsessed with bras and knickers and I was studying business management at the time so it seemed like the perfect way to get some hands-on experience at running a business whilst having some fun too. These two pieces were my initial ideas for the brand although I planned right from the start to make Esty Lingerie a mixture of my own and others' collections. I set up the website that very same day and set about producing the two designs that I'd sketched out.

When the site went live there were only ten items available to buy, including some corsets that I'd bought wholesale. That was late 2009 - it's now coming up to Esty Lingerie's second birthday and there are now close to 600 products in the e-store from 18 different brands, with plenty more brands and products due to launch before Christmas! The majority of what I sell at Esty Lingerie is made by independent designers from around the globe - this means that the lingerie and swimwear is ethically-produced, high-quality and very limited edition. I designed my first full collection for Spring/Summer earlier this year which was a big learning curve and plenty of fun! A second collection is being designed right now and I plan to bring out a new range every season from now on.

In my effort to help and promote independent designers, I've also run an international lingerie design competition (the winning design is going on sale in the next week or so!) plus taken on a handful of interns in areas such as lingerie design and lingerie marketing to give young people a great portfolio and CV to help them towards a future career in the lingerie industry. The current design intern Jennifer has been very heavily involved in creating Esty Lingerie's second collection, Violet, which will be launching just in time for our second birthday, along with a special limited-edition birthday collector's piece!

It's hard to believe that it all started out with just a couple of thirty-second sketches in a notepad...

Some of the more 'unusual' lingerie at Ann Summers

Whilst I'm on the subject of Ann Summers, if the typical bra and knickers set isn't your thing here are some of the more weird and wonderful pieces from their latest collection...

Ann Summers Maria 2 Piece Set £20
This Spanish-inspired Maria bra and skirted thong set is made from semi-sheer black mesh, finished with satin ribbon bows. The 'bralet' is open at the bottom, with short, off-the-shoulder sleeves. It sure looks pretty in the picture, I'm just not sure how practical it would be to wear under clothes - there's definitely no support given here! This one is definitely 'bedroom lingerie' only.

Ann Summers Bird of Paradise bra £18 and thong £12
The Bird of Paradise set is far from your everyday lingerie! The purple bra is one-shouldered, with peep-holes and a thick, feathered trim. The matching, crotchless thong has a feathered skirt. Not your thing? The feathers are removeable on both pieces (although if you plan to remove them, you might be better off just buying a regular peep-hole bra set in the first place...). There's also a matching body available too for £30.

Ann Summers Black Swan bra £25 and brief £14
Another one for the feather lovers! This time the feathers aren't removeable and there's certainly lots of them! The longline Black Swan bra comes in black satin, as do the matching knickers. It could look very over the top but I think the simplicity of the bra combined with the all-black finish actually make this quite glamorous and classy. Still, not one to wear underneath anything tight fitting!

Ann Summers Kristina pearl bra £40
A very luxurious piece of lingerie, the Kristina pearl bra is almost too good to cover up! It has ivory satin cups overlaid with chains and chains of draped pearls, tied into a knot at the centre. If you love the 'underwear as outerwear' trend this could be a great choice for a night out worn over a camisole top. It's very elegant and could actually be quite nice as bridal lingerie, if only you could find a dress to wear over it that doesn't make all those pearls too uncomfortable or visible. It's also not too pricey considering the design.

Ann Summers Samantha Pearl 3 Piece Set, £25
The Samantha lingerie set is another one for fans of pearl lingerie - I love the open-cup bra made from ruffled black lace, pearl chains and ribbon bows! It comes with a tie-side, crotchless thong and ruffled black cuffs and collar that are attached by long strings of pearls. It's definitely very glamorous and unique! The diamante pasties aren't included but the very similar Pure Crystal Swarovski crystal pasties by Sass A Frass Designs are absolutely stunning and the perfect compliment to this luxurious lingerie set.

Ann Summers Unwrap Me cerise satin tie £15
Ann Summers seems to bring out a new version of this Unwrap Me lingerie piece every year so it must be popular... It's maybe slightly over-priced for what it is - a 12ft length of pink satin - but worth it if you don't have a sewing machine and twenty minutes to make one yourself. It's also available in leopard print and the traditional red (to give yourself as a present as Christmas!)

The Ivy lingerie set by Ann Summers

Ivy plunge bra £26 and suspender brief £14
How gorgeous is this new Ivy set from Ann Summers?! I love the ice white colour, whilst the black keeps it looking sexy rather than 'bridal' (not that that keeps me from buying all-white lingerie anyway). The plunge-style bra has lightly padded cups and the knickers come with detachable suspenders, but the best bit is that trim - it's a sheer mesh with scalloped edging, very unusual and pretty! I also love the two-tone bra straps, I've never seen that done before.
